While I've made plenty of banana muffin recipes, some of them are better than others. I'm happy to say this is my favorite one of all. This best ever banana muffins recipe tastes like it's from a bakery!

This magically moist banana muffins recipe is so delicious, and it has a tall and springy consistency that makes it totally irresistible. The wholesome banana recipe includes nine ingredients that make muffins that are perfectly moist and packed with banana flavor. This muffin recipe is loaded with naturally sweet overripe bananas (check out the health benefits of bananas), which, along with the Greek yogurt (check out the health benefits of Greek yogurt), also keep the muffins moist. You can choose to add chocolate chips and/or walnuts, too (check out the health benefits of walnuts). And the simple muffins take only about 35 minutes to whip up.

To make this easy banana muffins recipe, you'll need the following ingredients: overripe bananas, plain Greek yogurt, butter, eggs, sugar, vanilla extract, flour (all-purpose or gluten-free), baking soda and salt. The chocolate chips and chopped walnuts are optional. You mix up the simple batter then bake up the muffins until cooked through and golden brown. Such old-fashioned goodness.

Ingredients

• 4 small overripe bananas, mashed
• 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt
• 1/2 cup butter, melted
• 2 large eggs
• 1/2 cup granulated sugar
• 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
• 1 3/4 cups flour (all-purpose flour or gluten-free flour)
• 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
• 1/4 teaspoon salt
• 3/4 cup semisweet chocolate chips, divided (optional)
• 1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

Here's how to make it:

1. In a large mixing bowl, add the mashed bananas, Greek yogurt, melted butter and eggs. Whisk to combine. Add the sugar and vanilla. Stir to combine.
   
2. In a medium mixing bowl, add the flour, baking soda and salt. Whisk to combine.
   
3. Slowly combine the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients. Stir until just combined.
   
4. Fold in a 1/2 cup of chocolate chips and the walnuts, if using. (Instead of semisweet chocolate chips, you could use milk chocolate chips or dark chocolate chips, if preferred. Instead of walnuts, you could use pecans.)
   
5. Evenly spread the batter into a muffin pan that's been sprayed with cooking spray, noting that each muffin cup should be filled only three-quarters full.
   
6. Spread the remaining chocolate chips across the tops of the muffins, if using.
   
7. Bake in a preheated 350 degree F oven until cooked through and golden brown, about 20 to 22 minutes (muffins should pass the toothpick test).
   
8. Allow muffins to cool for 15 minutes before removing to a wire rack to cool completely.
   
9. Store leftover muffins in an airtight container in the refrigerator or freezer.
